a club for all

Although we are officially called the "Beeslack All Stars Disabled Sports Club" it is just called "oor club" by the clubs members.  The members no longer see disability, they see friends who they have grown with.  We focus on capability - not disability.

The Beeslack All Stars DSC started in 2004 with the intention of providing sporting opportunities for children from 5 to 16 years of age who have learning and physical disabilities, and their siblings.  We have two sessions - Tues 6.45 to 8.45 pm and a Sunday from 1 to 3pm - Boccia from 3pm to 4.15pm.  Although our intention was 5 to 16 years of age we have a number of twenty somethings who have been with the club since they were at least 16.

The club provides adapted sporting activities from football, basketball, hockey  boccia, new age curling and swimming (tues only)etc etc.  We also have a supervised snack where kids have social interaction and an active parents gathering time which  parents can exchange ideas and advice.

The club is self funded and is run by a committee of parents. We currently provide activities for over 50 kids which involve 40 families.   A number of the parents stay and lend a hand volunteering and we provide volunteering opportunities for high school pupils currently from Beeslack, Penicuik and Lasswade Highs.

The club is primarily set up for Learning and Physical disabilities and due to funding and staffing we are unable to provide any one on one support.   Each request for membership will be dealt with on an individual basis as the needs of the  members currently in the club must be taken into consideration prior to new members being introduced.

The club is supported by 7 fully qualified staff members covering a variety of sports.  We also have a team of around a 12 enthusiastic volunteers and are provided with numerous training opportunities.

Both our Tuesday nights and Sundays are currently full - We have limited volunteer spaces so please get in touch with us via the enquiry page.
